Process Control – Droplet Density Metric – 1.18.53

With the version update 1.18.53, a new metric called "Droplet Density" was introduced to the Process Control module.

This metric was developed in response to customer requests and will now be released in an experimental version. This means that the OK/NOK result of this metric will not currently affect the overall Process Control outcome.

The metric is available for all three pattern types: Static Gun, Static Bell, and Dynamic Pattern.

By default, the metric will be automatically enabled for all projects and users, with the evaluation area preset to the top-left corner of the image, where droplet density will be measured.

⚠️ IMPORTANT – Since the droplet area position is calculated based on the Golden Standard pattern, it is essential to maintain the same positioning of the processed pattern during image capturing.

This ensures that the droplet density is measured in the same area on both the Golden Standard and the processed pattern. If this condition is not met, the Process Control calculation may produce incorrect results and misleading outputs.

What Does the Droplet Density Metric Measure?

The metric measures the density of paint droplets within a selected area ranging from 1×1 cm to 5×5 cm, expressed as the number of droplets per cm².

To ensure accurate evaluation, it is necessary to define a thickness threshold that determines which droplets will be detected and included in the analysis.

How to Set the Metric in the Process Control Project Manager?

Go to the Advanced Settings of the selected project in the Process control Project Manager.

In the Advanced Settings dialog window, click the "Droplet Area Selector" button.

Now it is time to define the position and size of the area where the droplets will be evaluated. You also need to set the desired thickness threshold.

  • In the top-left section, you can manually define the position of the evaluation area. The position is calculated from the top-left corner of the image, and you can choose between “dp” (data points) or “mm” (millimeters) as the unit.

  • In the thickness threshold selector, you need to specify the thickness level (in microns) at which droplets will be counted.

  • You can adjust the size of the selected area from 1×1 cm up to 5×5 cm by scrolling the mouse wheel.

    • Double-click with the left mouse button to zoom in.

    • Right-click to zoom out.

On the right side of the window, confirm your selection to save the area for process control.

The Process Control Results Including the Selected Area for Droplet Measurement

After running the Process Control with the droplet density area settings, the results will be displayed as follows:

  • The selected area where the droplets are evaluated will be highlighted.
  • The droplet count and density will be calculated, and the metric result will be shown.

As mentioned earlier, this metric is currently in an experimental phase and will not impact the overall Process Control result until it is finalized and officially released based on customer feedback.
